The NHS App is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet.
If you need assistance with downloading and setting up the NHS App our digital health team can help.
Using the NHS App to book appointments at Frome Medical Practice
If we have asked you to book any of the following appointments, the NHS App is the quickest and easiest way to do this:
- B12 injections
- Blood tests
- BP plus
- Cervical screening (smear tests)
- INR

You will need a NHS account to access your services through the NHS App or website.

I don’t use a smartphone. Will I still be able to use the NHS App?
Yes, it is possible to access the NHS App online via a website browser. You will need an NHS login to do this.

I don’t have access to any devices, how can I access the NHS App?
- You can visit Frome Medical Practice and use one of our devices to access the NHS app. We have 4 iPads by the reception desk for patients to use.
- You can also request to be referred to Donate IT to receive a free device if you do not have access to a smart device.
- Self-refer by using our online form or by calling our Health Connections team on 01373 468368.
Donate IT is working to recycle and restore used devices for redistribution to those that need it within our community. They may also provide you with free data if needed.
I do not have photo ID and am finding it difficult to access the NHS App. Can you help?
Yes. If you do not have photo ID or have other issues setting up access to the NHS App please contact our Digital Team.
We aim to reply to requests for help withing 5 working days.
Accessing The NHS App for Others
Can I use the NHS App on behalf of my children?
You can request proxy access on the NHS App for children under the age of 13, if you are the legal guardian. This is also referred to as a 'linked profile' in the NHS App.
Once you have set this up, you will have access to identical App features for the linked profile that you have for your own account. This includes booking appointments, managing prescriptions, and viewing GP health records.

Can I use the NHS App on behalf of an adult I am caring for?
Yes. Linked profiles allow family members and carers to access health services on behalf of other adults.
You must both be registered at Frome Medical Practice to set up a linked profile.

Depending on the level of access we agree to give you, you may be able to:
- Book an appointment for the other person.
- Request and manage their repeat prescriptions.
- View some or all of their GP health record.
Using The NHS App to Order Repeat Prescriptions
I don't always order the same medicine each time and the NHS App isn't allowing me to make a repeat prescription request. What should I do?
We are aware that the NHS App has limitations when it comes to making requests for items that you do not need every time.

- Request using the paper form provided by the pharmacy - To request your prescription, bring the paper form to the practice. Then place the paper form in the prescriptions box to the left of the reception desk.
I used to order my prescriptions online via your website. How do I do this now?
The NHS App is a simpler and quicker way of ordering prescriptions.
Any repeat prescriptions should appear in the NHS App. However, you can still order your all your prescriptions online by seeing our other available options on our prescriptions page.

What you can use the NHS App for
Use the NHS App to:
- order repeat prescriptions - see your available medicines, request a new repeat prescription, and choose a pharmacy for your prescriptions to be sent to
- book appointments - search for, book and cancel appointments at Frome Medical Practice, and see details of your upcoming and past appointments
- check your symptoms - search trusted NHS information and advice on hundreds of conditions and treatments, and get instant advice or medical help near you
- view your medical record - securely access your GP medical record, to see information like your allergies and your current and past medicines

Keeping your data secure
The NHS App works in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements for the UK. The app then securely connects to information from Frome Medical Practice.
After you download the app, you will need to set up an NHS login and prove who you are. If your device supports fingerprint detection or facial recognition, you can use it to log in to the NHS App each time, instead of using a password and security code.
